Our Story

The Kreativ Studio, Inc. was founded by Angelia Baxter, a Certified Usability Analyst (CUA) and self-taught techie, who stumbled upon the tech world during a one-way ticketed visit to the Bay Area.  Unable to find work in her hometown of Flint, MI after graduating from college, she was convinced by her father to 'come visit'.  The visit became a permanent move and the start of her tech career.  Her first role was  Executive Assistant to the Director of Engineering at a small startup.  This afforded her many opportunities to shadow, stay late nights, and learn new things. 

First learning to code, she quickly moved up to Web Developer/Designer and later found her passion for Design and solving design problems.  She later transitioned from Web/Intranet design into Software Development as an UI Engineer on a team where she eventually became the UI Manager.  In her new role she was responsible for managing several B2B software offerings, newly acquired products, and international partnerships. 

After a successful corporate career and in the midst of the 'dot-com' era recession, Angelia became a newly single mother and was laid off, multiple times.  This pattern forced her to make some life adjustments, one being the choice to freelance. She later launched The Kreativ Studio, Inc. and continues to serve large and small organizations with complex business initiatives. 

In addition to consulting, she has a passion for teaching and mentoring others.  She has taught technology and design subjects to various audiences and skillsets (school aged students, college students, professionals, and senior citizens). She has been a featured guest speaker in university UX classes as well as participated on an UX Advisory Board.

Never forgetting her humble beginnings, Angelia enjoys participating as a Career Day Volunteer and Speaker at various Oakland schools. She has a special affinity for helping make tech dreams come true for other single parents, minorities, students, and anyone transitioning into UX as she once was, and often provides advice and mentorship to aspiring designers. She is also a Writer, Director, and Photographer with two sons and a Dogter™ that all help keep her life interesting outside of work.
